2-Month Checkup

30 Sep

2-Month Checkup, originally uploaded by ardiddy.

I am happy and healthy!  I am now 12 lbs. 14 oz.! Almost 5 pounds heavier than when I was born 8 weeks ago! I am also 24 inches long.  I’ve grown 3 inches!  And my head circumference is now 16 inches. Just about 2 inches bigger!

I also received 4 vaccinations today. OUCH! Not fun! But I didn’t cry much. I think it probably hurt Mommy more to watch and hear me when Nurse Jewel poked me. I’m FINE! I pretty much went to sleep right afterwards. In fact, I’m blogging in my sleep right now from the car. 🙂  I am AMAZING!

Stay tuned for more adventures tomorrow when I hit the road with Mommy, Daddy, Tita Ging, + Uncle Danny! ROAD! TRIP! ROAD! TRIP! It’ll be my first time to be in Sacramento!

Three Generations of Nishii Men

I had a fun couple of days with O-Papa!  He really did spoil me with hugs and kisses AND delicious meals that I tasted through Mommy’s milk!  My O-Papa is a natural at getting me to laugh and smile.  I think he is really excited that Papa has a son of his own.  When O-Papa looks at me, his face lights up and he is constantly telling me what a beautiful baby I am and that I’m a good boy.  I have a feeling that I remind him of my Papa.  In fact, I overheard Grandma telling Mommy today on the phone that she has some old pictures that look identical to these recent pictures except they’re of O-Papa holding Papa when he was a baby.  I can’t wait to see those pictures!

Anyway, I think O-Papa is very proud of Papa for producing such a good kid.  I guess he thinks that I turned out OK (so far).  😀  O-Papa had such a good time with me that he is extending his upcoming December trip by a few extra days so that he and Obaachama can spend more time with me!  YAY!  During this visit, he cherished each moment with me.  He kept on telling me that in December, he won’t get a chance to hold me because he knows that Obaachama will want me all to herself!  WOW!  It’s really amazing to have so many people who love me!

I miss O-Papa already.  I can’t wait for December!

So here I am reporting from our kitchen to see if posting from a mobile device will show up on my blog AND Mama’s Flickr account… Hope so!  In the meantime, I’m enjoying watching Papa prep for our dinner.

Stay tuned!

Smiling + Laughing

26 Sep

I’m really starting to communicate!  For the past week or so I have been starting to laugh and smile as a reaction to my surroundings. (…not just as an involuntary reaction to passing gas!)  If you thought I was cute before, wait til you see my grin and hear my giggle!  I am even MORE irresistible!!!

In these photos and in the video below, I am reacting to a toy that Lola and Lolo gave me during their last visit.  (Mama had put it away in one of her cleaning frenzies and discovered it today during her latest cleaning frenzy and so I’m just now seeing this musical monkey for the first time.  When you press on its belly, it plays “Twinkle, Twinkle” and its cheeks light up red.)  I think it’s HILARIOUS!  When you watch the video wait for 1:23.  That’s when I really start to “talk” about how much I like my new toy!

Other things that make me smile:

  • seeing Mama or Papa’s face
  • eating!
  • hanging out with Uncle Danny and Tita Ging
  • hanging out with Auntie Sarah

Kayla-Oneechan watching over me

Papa has a lot of work to do so Mama took me out to visit Auntie Chahee and Kayla, one of my Japanese big sisters or “Oneechan” in socal.  With Auntie Sarah’s help, we hit the road and had lunch with them at Pho Hana.  Mama usually can never finish those gigantic bowls of pho.  But not today!  She finished her chicken pho!  I can’t wait to taste it in Mama’s milk!  The restaurant is a perfect place for families with kids.  We got to eat in a special kids’ room which looked like we were at Chuck E. Cheese!  And Mama was able to breastfeed me comfortably.

After lunch, the ladies and I indulged in a Starbucks run.  Mama really misses coffee so it was a special treat for her to try a decaf Toffee Mocha Frapuccino.  It was perfect for this hot day.

We were supposed to hang out at Auntie Chahee’s new apartment but Mama got distracted by the TJMaxx store.  This was her first time and she found so many amazing deals.  For example, she was surprised to find my special bottle — the Breastflow bottle.  She and Papa bought me my 5 oz. bottle at the Pump Station in Santa Monica for about $5.50.  At TJMaxx, Mama found a 3-pack of 9 oz. Breastflow bottles for only $7.99!  I’m not drinking 9 oz. in one sitting yet but I WILL soon! …  It was so great to have Auntie Sarah there with us.  She and Mama had a blast picking out cool clothes for me.  (I needed more long-sleeved tops as natural SPF for this sunny socal weather.)

Before heading back north, we stopped by Auntie Chahee’s place nearby.  Even though I was snoozing and not complaining at all during our day trip, Mama really needed to change my diaper!  This was her first time trying out Auntie Jan, Uncle Shaun and Maxine’s present to me — a Patemm changing pad.  (See photo above)  Mama thinks it’s a supercool concept for its circular design and pattern AND for the fact that it was invented by a Filipina!

I could tell that Kayla-Oneechan was very curious about me.  I can’t wait to play with her and practice my Japanese when I get older!

We concluded our lazy Saturday back up at Tita Ging and Uncle Danny’s place and watched a bunch of movies and TV shows (Mama and Tita Ging’s favorite hobby).  What a fun day!!!

My First Bib

23 Sep

© Photo by Ardith Ibañez NishiiI’m a breastfed baby so I don’t usually spit up, but today I did… BIG time!  So much that both Mama AND I had to change our clothes!  So, my mom decided that it was time to whip out the bib collection.  We have dozens and dozens of bibs — both hand-me-downs and brand new ones.  Deciding which bib was a no-brainer.  Mama picked out my camera bib that Tita Ging bought for me when we first moved from NYC to LA.  I wasn’t even born yet!  Isn’t it cute?  It makes me look like an artist just like my mom and dad!  It’s from Mama’s favorite neighborhood gift shop, Blackmarket, on Sawtelle Blvd.

I’m also sporting a gray-blue onesie from Auntie Alice and Uncle Sammy.  It’s from a cute shop called Peek… Aren’t You Curious.  It’s sooooo soft plus I think it brings out the gray-blue color of my eyes!  LOL!  (You can’t tell in the camera phone pic from this post, but trust me!  It does!)  And the oatmeal heather Old Navy pants are inherited from my cousin, Issei.  I’m so lucky to have such a stylin’ cousin.

I’m growing pretty quickly.  Pretty soon, Mama and Papa are gonna have to get the 3-6 month clothes that are packed in storage!  I am only 7 weeks old right now, but I’m most comfortable in clothes that are for 3-month-old babies!  I think I have a good chance of being tall and handsome like my daddy.  Don’t you agree?

Happy Birthday, Tita Ging!

22 Sep

I’m having a great time celebrating Tita Ging’s birthday! This is my first time visiting her at work at Entertainment Tonight! We had a delicious lunch at a nearby Argentinian restaurant called LaLa’s. YUMMY!

I wish her lots of love and happiness and anything and everything she wants in the coming year! (Hey, how about a cousin for me?! LOL!)

Meeting My O-Papa

Today, I met my O-Papa for the first time!  He’s my Papa-B’s papa who arrived from Tokyo on his way to Portland for a business trip.  Up until today, I’ve just been communicating with him via Skype.  But I know his voice and I remember his DELICIOUS cooking from our Hawaii trip in January and from his visit to LA in July.

I enjoyed his hugs and kisses all afternoon and evening.  He even made me laugh and smile!…  I have a good feeling that he was very happy to meet me.  He has to leave for work tomorrow but I’m looking forward to spending a couple more days with him next week.

Cedro is almost 5 weeks old.  Here’s a copy of an email sent to Cedro’s grandparents (Dan + Gloria Ibañez aka “Lolo” and “Lola”; Hisao + Hisano Nishii aka “O-Papa” and “Obaachama”;  Jeff + Louise Davis aka “Grandpa” and “Grandma”) and to our siblings and their husbands (Arlene + Danny Yoo aka “Tita Ging” and “Uncle Danny”; Lisa Nishii + Ray Kim aka “Tita Lisa” and “Funkle Ray”).

09/10/10 – 12:20am

hi, family!

this is a quickie.

C had his 1-month check-up on wednesday!  he is now 10.9 lbs, 22.25 inches long, w/ a head circumference of 15″!

he was also a big hit at tita ging and uncle danny’s wedding last saturday.  very calm and peaceful throughout both the ceremony and reception.  we’re so happy for ging and danny and glad that lisa, ray, and the kids were able to join in the celebration!  unfortunately, ging’s best friend’s daughter came down with a cold and couldn’t be a flower girl.  fortunately, elise was more than willing to step in!  it has been an action-packed and memorable week!

that’s all for now!  gotta go.  hope all’s well with everyone!

xoxo
