Today was our good-bye lunch for Grandma and Grandpa.  Can’t believe a month has gone by! Time flies!  I’m going to miss them so much.  I appreciate them spending a whole month with us here in Los Angeles.  Looking forward to their next visit which is already set for the end of March!

As we were about to enter the security line at the Sacramento airport, we ran into Tita Stacy + Tito Ken, who had just landed from San Diego!

I was sound asleep when Lolo dropped us off to check in our bags. Lola was with us to push me around to keep me occupied and I woke up in time to give her a classic Cedro smile.

Slept so well on the plane – my first flight! – and recognized Lolo and Lola immediately and have been smiling and laughing nonstop!

Getting Ready for Cedro’s 1st Flight!

Our flight to Sacramento is delayed by about an hour, but we’re doin’ A-OK!
As expected, I am continuing to be a Zen baby and just taking in all the
sights of the airport. Sitting in super-deluxe, super-nerdy lounge chairs
with outlets in the Southwest terminal so we can charge all our equipment.
I’m sure Lolo and Lola are anxious to see me!

Rainy Day Adventure w/ Grandpa + Grandma

There’s one more day til Tita Lisa, Funkle Ray, Nuna + Issei arrive. Mama + Papa have a LOT to do before they get here so Grandma + Grandpa came to the rescue to enertain me. We went to an art museum and I had a nice nap afterwards at the restaurant while Grandma + Grandpa lunched. (Special thanks to Auntie Sarah for the stroller rain guard! I was nice + dry but could still see out the stroller.)

My Lola Emmie

16 Dec

Today, I met my Lola Emmie for the first time.  She’s Lolo’s first cousin.  They grew up together in Manila and are more like brother and sister than just cousins; only one month apart in age!  Mama and Papa haven’t seen her since their visit to the Philippines back in June 2008.  It was so great to finally meet her today!

BEFORE, DURING and AFTER Mama haircut shots w/ Lola Emmie

Lola Emmie is an award-winning hair stylist and make-up artist and she came to spend the afternoon with us.  She even gave Mama a stylish new “mommy-friendly” cut right here at home!  What service!  Speaking of service, Lola Emmie has made front-page news in the Philippines where she has been doing community outreach work on top of managing her two hair salons in Manila.  For example, she has been doing hair and makeup for cancer patients, making them look RADIANT and glamorous!  She also takes time every Christmas season to visit jails and do inmates’ hair.  WOW!  She’s so inspiring!

Lola Emmie is such a warm and caring person.  It’s no surprise that she got me to laugh and smile so much!

Day at UCLA

UCLA - home of the Bruins

© Photo by Ardith Ibañez NishiiA lot of “firsts” to report for this day.  It was Cedro’s first bus ride and Cedro’s first visit to UCLA (or any school for that matter)!!!

It was a gorgeous day to walk around and enjoy being outside.  Perfect weather.  Not too hot.  Not too cold.  Just right!  Mom and Jeff had been meaning to visit the campus and so a day trip to UCLA proved to be a fun adventure we could share with Cedro.  © Photo by Ardith Ibañez NishiiIn a few minutes, the #1 Big Blue Bus took us right into campus from our neighborhood.  I think Cedro enjoyed the ride (as he does all sorts of rides).  He didn’t have much to say.  He just calmly looked out the window.  We brought the entire car seat stroller contraption which was nice to have since we went all over campus, but I knew that next time I would (a) bring less stuff in the diaper bag and (b) not bring the stroller if I were by myself.  I© Photo by Ardith Ibañez Nishii knew it would be too much to maneuver without two helpful grandparents by my side!

Once we were on campus, we didn’t have much of an agenda.  We just wandered a bit and explored… Cedro was most interested in all the big trees.  We had a leisurely lunch… even leisurely for me!  © Photo by Ardith Ibañez NishiiFor once, I didn’t have to rush to gulf down my food before breastfeeding.  Cedro just calmly sat in the stroller waiting for me.  He also spent quite a while after lunch chatting with Grandma and Grandpa.  His least favorite part of the day was when I took him into the public bathroom to change his diaper after our lunch break.  He freaked out over the sound of the toilets flushing and those fancy Dyson hand dryers.  This only happened once before when we were at a winery in Temecula.  Go figure.  I guess we’ve found our perfect Superbaby’s kryptonite — loud public bathrooms!

© Photo by Ardith Ibañez NishiiThe campus is huge and it didn’t take long for us to fill up a few hours before it was time to head back home.  On our way out, we stopped by the Ronald Reagan UCLA Hospital where Cedro’s Auntie Sarah works.  Cedro instantly recognized his auntie!

It was a great day.
